Passing their opposition with 7 balls to go in their inaugural match for the Club our first women's cricket side defeated Omega CC in their CSBW, Division 2 match at Fregon Reserve on Sunday. Under the guidance of Clare Konstanty, the Krushers elected to bowl upon the toss win. A bold call many would think, but it was tight bowling by all, and with Clare and Shyanne Roberts chewing up overs, creating wickets and giving few runs, Omega were restricted to 5/76. Of note:- 1 wicket for 5 runs off 4 overs for Shyanne. - Outstanding!
A solid start by the openers Ilana Cook and Isabella Fishlock had 20-odd runs on the board but the run rate might've been a bit low until Clare stepped in at Isabella's retirement.
33 runs at a 132 strike rate and 4 boundaries was the injection Krushers needed and when she walked off retired not out; Sophia Donnellan and Rose Martin were able to bat patiently and sensibly to steer the team home for a relatively comfortable win.
In a first game of "firsts", there will be the first wicket, the first runs, the first catch, the first run-out, etcetera, but Ashleigh Walpole can claim the first "quacker".
(Author's comment:- As a many-time duck maker, it's not your actual score, it's what you did for the partnership, eg. that leg-bye)
All in all, congratulations ladies on a fine history-making result first up!
